Best Upholstery & Carpet Stain Remover

About this Recipe

Messes happen whether we like it or not, even inside our homes. It's probably the messes that happen inside our homes that bother us the most, especially when they're on hard to clean surfaces like fabrics and carpets. These areas are very prone to staining as well which is why finding the best cleaning tips and tricks is important. Getting to stains as soon as possible is also key as well since the longer the stain sits, the more it will embed into the fibres of the fabric or carpet.

It's also important to use the proper cleaners on your upholstery and carpets, so you don't damage them. But don't worry we've got you covered. There are some great and easy cleaning tips and tricks for carpet and furniture cleaning that only include natural cleaners. You have to love it when any cleaning tips include natural cleaners, especially when most of them are found in your kitchen or very easy and affordable to purchase at any store. If you have a carpet cleaner, that's a great way to keep your carpets nice and clean, but if you just have one small stain a natural cleaner like this one will come in really handy. Since you can use it on upholstery and fabrics, it will also come in handy for cleaning pillows, couches, chairs, ottomans, curtains and more.

You can mix a whole batch of this cleaner, so you always have it around and ready to use when you need it. Or, you can also just mix some of the natural cleaner up as you need it and just make a smaller amount.

All you'll need is 1 tablespoon of dish soap - you can use any kind you'd like but if you'd like to keep your carpet and furniture cleaning solution all natural, use natural dish soap for this cleaner. You'll also need 2 cups of hot water, 1 tablespoon of white vinegar and then some baking soda. The baking soda won't get mixed in with the other natural cleaners though so just keep it in a separate container.

Using a shaker works really great for distributing an even amount of baking soda over a surface. You can pick up a parmesan cheese or chilli pepper shaker at the dollar store and fill it up with some baking soda. Alternatively, you could also use a recycled jar and poke some holes at the top to make your own baking soda shaker for cleaning. As for the other ingredients, mix them all up in a cleaning bottle with a spray nozzle and then shake them up to mix before each use.

When you have a stain, sprinkle it with the baking soda and wait 10 minutes. Then vacuum up the baking soda with your vacuum cleaner. This will help to trap the moisture making it easier to pick up the substance that made the mess. This works much better than using a cloth to soak it up since the cloth can spread the substance around staining more of the carpet or upholstery.

After the majority of the stain is absorbed and vacuumed up with the baking soda, you can then use the carpet and furniture cleaning stain remover. Use a clean cloth and spray or carefully pour some of the cleaning solutions on your cloth. Then use the cloth to dab the stain adding more cleaner to the cloth as needed until the stain is gone.

It's very important not to rub or scrub the stain since this works the pigments of the substance into your carpet or upholstery fiber making the stain set in even deeper. Once you notice that your stain is removed completely, you can then allow the area to dry completely and then fluff up the fibers with a brush or another cloth. Easy carpet and furniture cleaning without the chemicals, you have to love that.
