The world is moving AWAY from plastic bags

About this Recipe

Plastic has really taken over since it was invented in the 20th century. Plastic started to become popular in the 1960s and then got really popular in the 80s. Now, it's hard to look around your home without seeing something that has some form of plastic in it. However, there are a lot of environmental implications of using plastic, including the issue that it takes so long to degrade. Of course, there is the option of recycling plastic, but not all plastic products can be recycled. This includes most plastic bags which are widely used in most shopping centres and shops. The good news is since people are making an effort to be more environmentally friendly, the world is slowly but surely doing away with plastic bags.

Plastic pollution is severely affecting water, especially, and this includes the animals that live in the water. The single-use plastic products are causing a lot of damage to the planet and the life on it, so that's why it's a great that more people are learning how to be environmentally friendly and implementing environmentally friendly products into their lives and getting rid of single-use plastics. It's great that most places around the world have banned certain single-use plastic products in exchange for environmentally friendly products like swapping out plastic straws for paper straws that disintegrate much easier than plastic ones.

There are also efforts to reduce the use of plastic bags by implementing paper bags in stores instead. There are already so many places around the world that are making big efforts on how to be environmentally friendly by restricting plastic products, especially the main culprits being single-use plastic products. In Canada, for example, they have banned plastic straws in Vancouver and plan to ban all solid waste by 2040. They also ban styrofoam containers and cups as well. Montreal has banned certain types of plastic bags that are too thin and are only good for one use. Victoria has also banned plastic bags, and Vancouver is also working on it. Edmonton has a charge for plastic bags in most stores, and this is the solution many other Canadian cities and stores have come up with too as a way to move away from using plastic bags.

Other places around the world that are taking charge of doing away with plastics in favour of environmentally friendly products include Costa Rica, Great Britain, Greece, India, Guatemala, Switzerland, Scotland, Taiwan, Seychelles and places in the United States such as California, Hawaii, New Mexico, New Jersey, Washington, New York and others. Companies are also getting on board with how to be environmentally friendly by banning plastics. Some of the companies joining in include Alaska Airlines, Costa Cafe, Bon Appétit Management Company, Hyatt, Hilton, London Airport, Ikea, Starbucks and many more.

So with these positive changes being made, what can you do to pitch in and do your part? If you want to learn how to be environmentally friendly by using environmentally friendly products, you'll be part of the solution. One of the best ways to be environmentally friendly is to use reusable shopping bags. Get at least 6 of them depending on how many you actually need when you go grocery shopping and always remember to bring them with you in the car and in the store. These bags are reusable and washable so you can use them for years. You can also be sure to use metal or glass straws and bring them with you when you go out so that you don't have to use the plastic straws from restaurants and coffee places. Make sure you ask for no straw with your drink though too.
